A skin condition called skin laxity exists in which the skin loosens. This may occur due to the depletion of collagen and elastin. Collagen is discussed above but elastin is the compound that allows our skin to settle back into its place whenever someone tugs or pinches us. It allows our skin to be elastic. However, other factors add up to skin laxity as well, such as aging, diet, sun exposure, and even smoking.

Factually speaking, after the age of twenty, the production of collagen in our skin drops by 1% every year. Therefore, how we look in later years of our life depends on how we maintain ourselves in the wilder years of our life. Either one or many lines of wrinkles, it all depends on us.

Diagnosis of skin laxity can range from mild to moderate to severe. Mild laxity begins with loose skin at the center of our face. And then as it moves towards the severe side, we notice the skin around the necks get flowier and crepe-y. Therefore, patients who suffer from any degree of skin laxity should consider thread lifting as early as possible. The reason being the fact that the condition continually worsens and as much time is wasted, a more complex surgery has to be performed.

It is a comparatively easier procedure that takes around an hour to perform. First, numbing and cleansing are done of the area that needs to be treated. Then, a few marks are made on the skin which plays as reference marks for the surgeon to for injections. Polydioxanone-filled hypodermic needles are used for the injections. As the needles slide into the skin, they leave a synthetic material behind. This synthetic material acts as a thread that lifts the skin and solves skin laxity.

Another thing that should be noted is that because the treatment area is numbed, most patients do not feel any discomfort during the treatment. Apart from the initial pinch of the needle, which too quickly passes away. Many patients also compare the initial pinch to that felt during botulinum toxin injections.

This treatment was approved by the FDA in 2018 and has been widely used since then. There are different types of threads that can be used in this procedure with every thread having its own specialty and results.

However, one thing that all these threads have in common is that the threads used are completely revamped and have improved greatly compared to the original threads that were used in the 1990s. Current threads are more effective and produce a more natural look on the face

As the treatment is completed, patients are able to get back to work almost immediately. Full results take anywhere from two months to six months to fully develop. No such precautions are asked of the patients except for avoiding massaging or stretching of the treated area for 14 days. Patients can go back to their normal lives, start exercising and apply makeup just as they were before the procedure.

Although noticeable effects are reaped right after the procedure, the best results are achieved over a few months. Due to that it never seems that the patient suddenly got a procedure done on their skin. It is a more natural approach to combat aging but not a go-to solution for patients who are in need of immediate results. The result of this procedure lasts for around a year.
